Remote Learning Support: Trade Book Guidance: Access to the required trade book texts in our curriculum is one of the most urgent needs for teachers, schools, and districts during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have put together information on digital availability of texts and online reading resources to support student learning at home. Please note that this is not a list of free resources and you may need an account or user license to access content from publishers.

Remote Learning Activities and Reading Guides
Below is a list of curriculum resources, modified from our curriculum, designed for students to complete remotely. Please review the table below for information about these resources, the curriculum, and technology requirements. All resources listed below can be accessed in Google Drive and where technology is available, teachers can facilitate the lessons via Google Classroom.
*Learning during the time of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic means teachers will need to provide support remotely, and in some instances may not be able to provide the depth of support necessary to address emotionally challenging content. View our outline and response to these topics here.

Remote Learning Activities for K-2 Can be used with the EL Education Language Arts curriculum. These daily language arts lessons for families/caregivers are a 10-week set of lessons following Module 3 and Module 4 of the K-2 Language Arts curriculum. Each week, daily lessons are divided into two parts: Part A: Learn to Read (phonics instruction in the Skills Block) and Part B: Read to Learn (content-based literacy in the Module Lessons). | Yes. These guides are aligned to the K-2 Language Arts Curriculum. | Sometimes. Most texts and all decodable readers are included with the lessons in Google Drive. Some activities may require access to texts digitally (see below for more information) or access to read alouds (links included in the materials). Please see Remote Learning Support: Trade Book Guidance for information on how to access texts digitally. | Sometimes. Students can complete all work on paper, however, in some instances, students will need access to videos or texts digitally to be able to answer questions or complete activities. Links are provided to digital book content within the lessons. Additionally, online files are accessed in Google Drive. |
Grades 3-8 self-guided study reading guides are designed to accompany anchor texts in the EL Education curriculum. | Yes. The guides incorporate elements of the Read-Think-Talk-Write cycle using texts found in our K-8 Language Arts curriculum. Reading Guides include a calendar with each day consisting of guiding questions and activities and consist of an average of 22 days of activities. | Yes. These guides require access to the K-8 Language Arts Curriculum anchor texts. Please see Remote Learning Support: Trade Book Guidance for information on how to access texts digitally. *View our outline and response to sensitive topics. | No. Once the online files are accessed in Google Drive, technology is not required for these activities. However, some users may require digital access to texts if hard copies are not available. |
Reading Guides for Grades 3-8 (use with any text) Access to the EL Education Language Arts curriculum is not required. These self-guided study reading guides are designed for use with any text, including newspaper articles or chapter books. These guides incorporate elements of the Read-Think-Talk-Write cycle and books can be found in the home or online. | No. These guides are independent study and do not use the K-8 Language Arts Curriculum. | No. Access to anchor texts from the K-8 Language Arts curriculum is not required. | No. Once the online files are accessed in Google Drive, technology is not required to complete these activities |
Apple a Day: Daily Lessons for a Healthy Mind These remote learning resources ensure that students are reading, thinking, talking, and writing about grade-level texts on real-world topics every day. Students can lead their own learning at home independently or with support from a parent or caregiver. | No. These guides are independent study and do not use the K-8 Language Arts Curriculum. | No. Access to anchor texts from the K-8 Language Arts curriculum is not required. | Yes.
