Remote Learning Support: Trade Book Guidance

Access to the required trade book texts in our curriculum is one of the most urgent needs for teachers, schools, and districts during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working hard with publishers to find ways for you and your students to access these books safely and digitally while honoring copyright law and the rights of the authors and illustrators.

Remote learning reading guides can be accessed on our Remote Learning Support page.

Digital Availability

K-8 Required Trade Books - Digital Availability: This sheet shows title availability for K-8 required texts on the most popular digital and ebook platforms, some of which have made it easier to access titles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Don't see the platform your school or district uses? Let us know, and we'll add it.

Video Read-Aloud Channels

These channels do not include our required texts, but they do have a great collection of professionally-produced (and publisher-permitted) read-aloud videos.

Publisher Open Licenses

A number of publishers are responding to the COVID-19 crisis by offering limited-time open licenses for creating video read-alouds of their books. The terms of the license vary from publisher to publisher, but usually require the video to be created by an educator or librarian and shared over a closed channel or platform. Please click through to the individual publisher licenses for details.

Below is a list of known licenses (from Publishers Marketplace and School Library Journal), along with the required texts that belong to each of those publishers.

This list will be continuously updated as we receive additional information from publishers.
