Support EL Education's K-8 Language Arts Curriculum

At this point in the year, most users of the EL Education Grades K-8 Language Arts curriculum will be working on Module 3. Families and caregivers may find the following suggestions useful in building student background knowledge related to the specific topics of study, by grade level.

The K-2 Reading Foundations Skills Block begins instruction at the Late Pre-Alphabetic phase to encompass the CCSS standards in  Kindergarten. Students who place in the Early Pre-Alphabetic and or Middle Pre-Alphabetic microphase are, instructionally, at a pre-Kindergarten level.  

The EL Education Benchmark Assessments are designed to help teachers determine the correct microphase for students when they begin their differentiated small group instruction and independent work in stations during the K-2 Skills Block. The Benchmark Assessments include a battery of assessments which include: letter recognition, letter-sound identification, phonological awareness, spelling, decoding and fluency.
