About the Crew Curriculum
If you're completely new to Crew, please first visit our Getting Started page.
The 6-8 Crew Curriculum is a year-long program that promotes character development, academic achievement, and a school culture of inclusion and belonging. During weekly Crew meetings, small groups of students circle up with a teacher Crew leader to discuss important social-emotional skills, build meaningful relationships, reflect on academic progress, and engage in community service. Based on over two-decades of experience with Crew, and building on EL Education's CASEL SELect rating, 6-8 Crew Curriculum lessons focus on the Habits of Character in the EL Education Character Framework and focus on building a sense of purpose, agency, and belonging in order to help students become effective learners and ethical people who contribute to a better world. The curriculum is informed by the CASEL Core Competencies and the Learning for Social Justice standards.
The 6-8 Crew Curriculum covers nine months of lessons. Each monthly topic includes four weeks of lessons with three 30-minute lessons per week. Additional FLEX lessons with optional content are also available and can be combined into 60- or 90-minute blocks according to school schedule needs.
